Do you have a retail store I can visit?
Our West Village retail store is now closed. We decided to close the storefront to focus on our specialty cake orders. We're still in the cake business, but now operate by appointment only. Please call us at (917) 532-6107 with comments, questions or special orders.
How can I order a cake?
We take cake orders by appointment only. Please call us at (917) 532-6107 or send an e-mail to
polkadotcakes@gmail.com to schedule an appointment. Please be sure to indicate the date of your event, how many people will be attending and the preferred time for your appointment.
How much notice do you need for a special order?
One week is preferred for most special orders, but particularly large or complicated orders require extra time. For weddings please allow a minimum of three weeks. Every cake is different, so please call (917) 532-6107 as soon as possible to discuss your order. Please remember to indicate the date of your event and how many people will be attending when ordering.
How much do your cakes cost?
If you order any of our
signature cakes we charge a "standard decoration" price. Any variation in decoration or flavor from the signature cake, or a new creation of your own, qualifies for the "special decoration" price. Tiered cakes are $45 extra. There is no charge for writing on cakes. You can view a complete list of
cake sizes and prices in our special order section. Please note: The special decoration price does not include 3D cakes (cakes cut in a custom shape) or particularly complicated designs. Custom cake prices vary and will depend on the request. Please call us at (917) 532-6107 to discuss pricing options further.
Do you deliver?
We work with a delivery service that charges $35 per delivery within Manhattan, regardless of order size. If you prefer, you can pick-up your cake in person by appointment. We do not deliver outside of Manhattan, since our cakes are fragile and wouldn't look nearly as nice after a tumble in the mail.
Do you do photo transfer cakes?
We're sorry, but we do not do photo transfer cakes at this time. We would be happy to recreate your image using drawings or decorations if you prefer.
Do you make cupcakes?
Yes, we make vanilla, chocolate, 24k carrot and red velvet cupcakes. Cupcakes can be topped with any type of buttercream or cream cheese frosting and a simple decoration of your choice.
What is ganache?
Ganache is a rich, thick chocolate filling made from melted dark chocolate and cream.
What is buttercream?
Buttercream is a mixture of butter, sugar and eggs used to fill and frost cakes. We make our buttercream "Swiss meringue" style, which is light and fluffy in texture (never grainy or too sugary).
What is genoise cake?
Genoise is a fine-crumb French sponge cake. Most people would just call it vanilla cake.
What is your most popular cake?
Should I keep my cake refrigerated?
Yes, we recommend you keep your cake refrigerated if it will not be served within a few hours of purchase. Remove cakes from the refrigerator at least 30 minutes prior to serving to bring it back to room temperature.
